One of the most prominent and historic branches of the mighty Clan Campbell in Scotland is made up of the Campbells of Craignish. Their lineage is traced back to Dugald Campbell, the second son of Sir Archibald Gillespic Campbell (b.1130), who was the 20th Chief of Clan Campbell and the 5th Knight of Lochawe at the time. The main line of the Campbell family that is currently known as the Duke of Argyll was founded by Sir Duncan Campbell, 6th Knight of Lochawe, the first son of Sir Archibald.
