There is a tradition stemming from the descendants of Joel Campbell that this Campbell family came from "Cherry Valley". The first group of researchers for this Campbell family tried to link this with Cherry Valley, New York, the home of Colonel Samuel Campbell, son of James Campbell. The first group erroneously believed, at that time, Colonel Samuel Campbell to be the son of Samuel Campbell, brother to James Campbell. Compare with the location of the Campbell properties and Valley Street (the same road running through the red circle). The question is how long was the highlighted area referred to as Cherry Valley seeing that the map dates from 1872?
